Dr. Carla Boutin-Foster

Associate Dean for Diversity Education and Research, SUNY Downstate

Dr. Carla Boutin-Foster graduated from Downstate Medical College and completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at the New York Presbyterian Hospital of Weill Cornell Medical Center. After residency, she completed a Master of Science degree in Clinical Epidemiology at the Weill Graduate School of Medical Sciences. Her research activities focus on identifying the psychological and social determinants of health and on the social epidemiology of health disparities.

Dr. Boutin-Foster has expertise in community-based participatory research, qualitative research, randomized trial design, survey development, and culturally-tailoring interventions. She has published peer-reviewed articles on her work and received NIH grants to conduct her research. She is Associate Dean for Diversity Education and Research at SUNY Downstate, where she teaches courses on health inequities and creates programs to increase the number of racial and ethnic minority students in medical school.
