BROOKLYN – We are grateful that the jury saw fit to hold Derek Chauvin accountable for his terrible abuse of power. When police officers are held above the law no matter how egregious their acts, no one is safe and justice becomes a mockery. Our hope is that this verdict can be a small step toward confronting and eradicating the abuse and violence African Americans face in even routine interactions with police from cradle to grave.
