Support Advocacy That Saves Lives

For nearly 25 years, ICS’s advocacy has been a lifeline for thousands of New Yorkers with physical disabilities, supporting our members and all people with physical disabilities in getting the services they need to live independently. Whether it’s ensuring a vulnerable MS patient receives home care or that someone with a spinal cord injury gets timely wheelchair repairs, we speak up so our members’ needs are met.

Why Supporting Disability-Competent Advocacy Matters

See how it has transformed the lives of these ICS members.

Manyon Lyons is a vibrant woman who took home silver for the United States, competing in the 1984 Paralympic Games. Living with cerebral palsy, which affects her muscle control and coordination, she needs a properly fitted wheelchair to stay healthy and mobile. Manyon has counted on ICS to help her live independently, care for her family, enjoy church and community activities, and advocate for herself and others with disabilities.

Manyon almost lost her independence this year when she broke her leg and needed additional home care, which her insurer refused to provide. With help from ICS, she appealed to an Administrative Law Judge, who granted her the home care hours she needed so her leg could properly heal.

Simone Taylor has severe mobility limitations. Her dream was to earn a graduate degree in Social Work so she could serve and advocate for other people with disabilities, but she was constantly frustrated by insurance denials of the mobility equipment she needed. At one point, Simone was forced to drop out of school because she couldn’t get repairs for her constantly broken wheelchair.

All of this changed when ICS got involved. That’s ICS’s disability-competent advocacy – and you can support it right now with a donation in any amount.
